A Maker of Magic

“A Maker of Magic” by Mark Piggott (Franklin Publishing)

A world divided by light and dark. To the north, Engressia—a land of rolling green hills and fertile lands, an industrious, modern nation where humans and demi-humans came together under the benevolent rule of King Detrick Myancote III. To the south, the Ebon Abyss—a place of death and despair, an infertile land of rock, stone, and death, blanketed in eternal darkness where the mysterious Demon Lord Molegra ruled a land of witches, warlocks, vampires, and other assorted horrors.

This division was separated by a thin stretch of land known as the Twilight Crossing. It was here that an eternal conflict was fought, where light and darkness spread back and forth across the land with the rising and the setting of the twin suns. Humanity battled relentlessly against the evil as they sought to satiate their constant hunger, for the only food that could quench their appetite lay in the lands of Engressia. However, the only thing keeping them out of the sacred lands was the army defending the front and their constant ally, sunlight.

Children were tested as young as five years old to see what talents and skills they possessed so that the best and the brightest could be trained as magic casters and warriors alike to bear the brunt of this endless war. Legends say that the war will end when two would come together to fight for Engressia—The Enchanter and The Blademancer. For thousands of years, the Sultana Dominion waited for a child to be deemed worthy of these gifts by the Tempus Arcanum.

And then, one day, the bells of the Arsillium Tower of Magic rang, as five-year-old Levi Ricther and Danielle Nichols were brought for testing that day, and their lives were forever changed. From that day forward, their destinies would intertwine through school, training, and ultimately, at the front lines, as friends, companions, lovers, and more. But darkness awaited them as evil threatened to end the prophecy, from within Engressia and beyond the Ebon Abyss. “There is a light within all of us where God exists. It’s how you use that light within the darkness that makes a difference in His eyes.”
